Blog Tour: Listen for the Lie – Amy Tintera

*I received a free copy of this book, with thanks to the author,

Blurb: Am I a murderer? You tell me . . .

You probably already know about me. Lucy Chase, the woman who doesn’t remember murdering her best friend.

You all think I did it. That’s OK, I get it. Being found wandering the streets covered in her blood wasn’t a great look.

Believe me, I’m as frustrated as you are. I’d love to know if I’m a murderer – it’s the sort of thing you really should know about yourself, isn’t it?

And now, thanks to true-crime podcast Listen for the Lie, I finally have the chance to find out. But will I be able to live with myself if it turns out it was me?

And if it wasn’t, will digging into the secrets of the night I forgot make me the next target of whoever did?

I’m so excited to bring this book to the attention of all murder mystery fans looking for something completely new and totally gripping – this is it! I got halfway through my review copy before impulsively purchasing myself copies on ebook and audiobook and I am seriously considering treating myself to a hardcover too… THAT is how enthralled I was with this book!

The story is told alternately from the point of view of main character Lucy attempting to live a ‘normal’ life years after being the only suspect in the murder of her best friend and the transcript of a true crime podcast which is digging into the cold case and finding out some hot new information. The twist is that even Lucy doesn’t know whether she is the murderer or not… she can’t remember a thing about that evening.

We hear Lucy’s very funny, snarky inner thoughts as the story and the case slowly unfolds, and we hear from her friends, family and neighbours as they give their stories to podcaster Ben. It’s obvious that people have their own secrets to hide and their own biases and motives distorting their view of the past events, but is someone hiding something far more…murdery, or is the obvious suspect guilty after all, even if she doesn’t know it?

I mean, tell me you could stop reading with a hook and then gradual reveal like that!

The author managed to keep me guessing throughout, completely uncertain as to who was lying and why, and how it might relate to Lucy and Savvy, and the reveal blindsided me expertly. The story (and clue planting) was perfectly paced from beginning to end, keeping me fully absorbed and immersed right up to the final full stop. And I love Lucy and her gran – I could read many, many books with that particular double act constantly winding people up for fun.

In short, the plot is really, really clever and entertaining and left me immediately desperate for another where that book came from. Keep an eye on this author, fellow fictional-murder fans, and definitely buy this book!

It’s probably unfair to say that a podcast ruined my life.
Technically, my life was destroyed the night Savvy was murdered.
And then it was destroyed again, the next day, when I decided to take an early-morning stroll with her blood drying on my dress.
And for a third time, when everyone in my hometown decided that I was the one who killed her.
But a podcaster dragging the case into the public eye, five years later, doesn’t exactly improve my life.
