Varian’s Guilt side quest for the #Pondathon requires me to post about a book that got me through hard times.
It’s not one individual book, but as a child with undiagnosed ASD and OCD, I found tremendous comfort in collecting, reading and re-reading series books.
This started with Colin Dann’s Animals of Farthing Wood series, then Lorna Hill’s Sadler’s Wells series, James Herriot’s Yorkshire Vet series, Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women series and L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables and Emily of New Moon series.
I still own all of these books today (the same editions pictured), and still find great comfort in reading and re-reading them when I’m feeling a bit low. They have the same effect on me as a snuggly blanket, a warm drink, a hug from a loved one, or a smooch from a pet.
What are your comfort reads?
