Where, oh where was this book when I was a Middle Grade book-dragon?!
This is the perfect journal / reading record for any parent or teacher who wishes to reward an avid booklover, or encourage a more reluctant one.
The book is packed with all sorts of fun reading activities: crafty ideas like bookmark templates; review templates to give students an idea of what to think about when / after reading a book; everything you need to set up your own book club; reading challenges for the voracious and adventurous; and some book-related games, including a particularly cool version of Bookish Top Trumps.
Minishine, at 7, is really on the lower end of the age range for being able to use this independently, although both her and BabyBows (4) were happy to try some of the challenges and games with my support.
The pictures and fonts are perfectly designed to lure children in – with simple, large print and cartoony styles that look enticing rather than intimidating to more nervous readers.
In fact, we only discovered one huge drawback with this book… all three of us are now fighting over whose copy it is! That’s right – I love this Middle Grade book-of-bookish-goodness so much that I have pinched it from my own children, and been forced to agree to buy them their own copies to atone.

This is actually no problem at all, as I’ll be needing to buy copies for all of the 8-12 year olds in our friend and family circle anyway!!!
“I am no ordinary bookworm. I treasure books like gold. I breathe fire and stories like other people breathe air. The power of words fills my wings as I circle the world time and time again.”
I am a Book Dragon.
